Panelist Interest Form

Serving as a Grant Review Panelist
Each year the Oregon Cultural Trust incorporates the perspective and input of Oregonians from across the state in reviewing and assessing grant applications. A peer review process ensures transparency in our stewardship of public funds and that funded programs reflect the people and communities of Oregon. Panelists are selected by the Cultural Trust through an open nomination process as well as active outreach.

Please use this form to nominate yourself or another individual to serve as a Cultural Trust grant review panelist. The information provided will be used to evaluate qualifications of potential panelists, to contact the nominee, and if the nominee is appointed, to update the Cultural Trust’s administrative records. The Cultural Trust may wish to publicly acknowledge serving panelists- please alert staff if you do not wish to have your name published. Please note- submission of an interest form does not guarantee selection as a grant review panelist.

Who can apply to be a grant review panelist?
The Trust builds review panels that reflect the diversity of the state’s cultures and communities along with the cultural expertise relevant to its grant program.  The Trust values experience and knowledge related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Experience may include but is not limited to:
  • Professional work in the arts, history, heritage, preservation and/or humanities sector.
  • Service as a board member or staff of an organization that offers cultural programming.

The Cultural Trust encourages people from underserved and underrepresented communities to apply to be a grant review panelist.

Can I serve as a panelist if my organization is also applying to the Cultural Trust?
Yes, we encourage you to apply if you or your organization applies. Trust staff will place you on a review panel that is not reviewing your application. The Trust also recognizes that conflicts of interest with organizations and or projects may arise. If you have a conflict of interest with an organization, we will ask you to recuse yourself from reviewing that application

What should I expect as a grant review panelist?
Selected panelists will receive notice of selection and be given no less than four weeks to complete their independent grant reviews. A mandatory orientation session will provide information, background, and tools for the review. A half or full day panel review meeting concludes the review process. Depending on the grant program, panelists should expect a commitment of 20-40 hours to complete the review process. Panel meetings may be held virtually or in-person, depending on the grant program.

Will I receive financial compensation for my service?
The Cultural Trust offers honorariums for panel service based on number of applications. Cultural Development panels read between 20-60 applications; we offer $250 for panelists reviewing forty or less applications and $300 for panelists reviewing over 40 applications.
