Why serve as a grant review panelist?
Participating panelists will:

• Meet and work with other panelists from across the arts, heritage, and humanities sector

• Contribute to the success of nonprofit cultural organizations and communities across Oregon
Who can apply to be a grant review panelist?
The Arts Commission builds review panels that reflect the diversity of the state’s arts communities along with the expertise relevant to its grant program. The Arts Commission values experience and knowledge related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Experience may include but is not limited to:
• Professional work in the arts sector.
• Work as an artist.
• Service as a board member or staff of an organization that offers arts programming.
• Efforts related to community development.
• Public service by local elected officials and municipal staff.
• Academic professionals; work as a classroom educator.
• Expertise in technical roles related to the arts.
• Volunteer work for arts-related activities.
The Arts Commission encourages people from underserved and underrepresented communities to apply to be a grant review panelist.
Can I serve as a panelist if my organization is also applying to the Arts Commission?
Yes, we encourage you to apply if you or your organization applies. Arts Commission staff will place you on a review panel that is not reviewing your application. The Arts Commission also recognizes that conflicts of interest with organizations and or projects may arise. If you have a conflict of interest with an organization, we will ask you to recuse yourself from reviewing that application
What should I expect as a grant review panelist?
Selected panelists will receive notice of selection and be given no less than four weeks to complete their independent grant reviews. A mandatory orientation session will provide information, background, and tools for the review. A half or full day panel review meeting concludes the review process. Depending on the grant program, panelists should expect a commitment of 20-40 hours to complete the review process. Panel meetings are generally held virtually.
Will I receive financial compensation for my service?
Yes. If you read up to 20 applications you'll receive $200. If you read up to 40 applications you'll receive $250. If you read over 40 applications you'll receive $300.
